Andros through the eyes of an Ottoman geographer
"Today it belongs to Venice. It has a perimeter of 90 miles. The island is mountainous; it has plenty of water and a well-built castle. It is situated at the east of the island and faces northeast. To the same direction is the island's anchorage. The big ships drop anchor at the coast. From both sides of the castle there are two separate bays with drinking water."
